Be Relentless!

For forty days the Philistine came forward every morning and evening and took his stand… David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.” As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground. So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him. David ran and stood over him. He took hold of the Philistine’s sword and drew it from the sheath. After he killed him, he cut off his head with the sword.1 Samuel 17:16; 45-51

The enemy can be pretty relentless. Oh, how he loves to continuously accuse and taunt us! He can be really BIG and really scary

BUT!

The Lord delivers and the Lord saves! We need not come against the enemy in our own strength – using our own feeble weapons. Instead, we are called to declare the greatness of our God to the enemy and then RUN to the battle line to meet him! Not using the weapons of this world, but the weapons that the Lord has provided. These weapons are skillfully wielded as we keep our eyes FIXED on the One to Whom the battle actually belongs.

When we are in a battle that has left us broken, bruised, battered and battle-weary, we can trust that our God fights for us! We are NOT defeated! He is our hope, our strength, our refuge, our rock, our healer, and our deliverer. He hems us in and He goes before us.

We don’t have to be like the Israelite army, cowering before Goliath. We can be like David – secure in who God is and who we are, in Him.

Beloved, if you are facing a giant, please know that you do not face him, alone. The Lord is with you and is fighting on your behalf. The war has already been won! And, in Christ, we are already victorious! The enemy knows this, so he attacks the children of God – sometimes in brutal ways – but that never changes God’s Promises.

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. 2 Corinthians 1:20-22

What is to come is VICTORY! Even as we do not see it with our eyes, our spirits KNOW.

Sometimes, we are able to take down a giant in one fell swoop. Other times, it takes more than one attack to bring him down. But our posture never changes, and that is a posture of being firmly rooted in Christ. And we are to be relentless as the enemy is relentless.

Don’t back down, dear one! God’s got this! You just remain in Him and watch as He delivers the enemy into your hands.
