The Enneagram has become a huge trend in the church…and it continues to gain traction. It is heavily marketed in Christian circles and endorsed by trusted leaders. However, the origins of the Enneagram are not ancient, psychology-based, or Christian.
The following is a video by Marcia Montenegro (christiananswersforthenewage.org). She is an ex-astrologer and has become an expert on the origins of the Enneagram. This video gives an excellent overview of the Enneagram.
Marcia has written extensively on this trend and has a number of great articles, which can be found at christiananswersforthenewage.org
In What About The Enneagram? (click on title to follow link) she covers a number of issues with the Enneagram – from its origins, to the long term effects when it is used for spiritual growth and direction. I highly encourage you to give it a read and to consider the information that she shares.

I have heard from many that learning their number has been helpful in understanding themselves; has bettered relationships; and has even helped them in their walk with God. I don’t doubt that! Satan disguises himself as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). He doesn’t always use “dark things” to draw us away from God. Oftentimes, he uses things that look “good” or “Christian” or “biblical” to deceive us. That is why God so heavily warns us – over and over – to watch out for deception (Col. 2:8; 2 Tim. 3:13; Prov. 26:24-26; Eph. 5:6)…because it’s not always obvious.
The concern that I am raising is that the origins of the Enneagram has been knowingly lied about and demonically influenced via automatic writing. If you do not know what automatic writing is, please see my last post: Spirit Guides and Channeled Material
God tells us in His Word that we are NOT to consult mediums or spiritists (2 Chron. 33:6; Lev. 19:31; Deut. 18:10-14; Isaiah 8:19-22). This would include automatic writing. Trusting the results of the Enneagram is on par with trusting the results of an astrological reading. The two are surprisingly the same – just slightly different packaging. Oftentimes, both seem to be on point concerning our personalities, but neither is a tool provided by God. We are to turn to God, our actual Creator, in order to understand who we are; to know how to interact with one another; and to know how to walk with Him.
As always, I encourage you to take this information to God, in prayer…and to search the Scriptures (in CONTEXT) to find out what God has to say. Side note: For those who would use the Romans 14 argument – Paul is referring to disputable things. Messing around with divination is a non-negotiable.
God loves us, so much! He warns us to stay away from mediums and spiritists, not because He is withholding something from us, but to protect us. God knows who is behind these practices and also knows the repercussions of His children coming under the influence of the enemy.
