Woke up this morning feeling better than I have, all week. For those who have lifted me up in prayer…THANK YOU!!
I’m still having a difficult time focusing on study and prayer…probably because I’m not getting much sleep. I guess that’s pretty much how it goes. We do well for awhile. We carve out that special time with God. We’re diligent in study; passionate in praise; surrendered in prayer.
Then life happens. We get busy. We get sick. Something comes up and knocks us off track. This is one of those times for me. This, too, is part of the journey.
When I sat down for my quiet time, I was actually more focused on finishing up my post from yesterday (which will be posted at the same time I post this), than I was on God. And guess who is STILL working on yesterday’s post?! I’ve taken that post in so many different directions, and have caused myself so much confusion, that I just had to stop…and move on to this post. Stepping away has helped me to remember something.
Even though I may be doing a good thing by sharing my journey with others, it is still my time with God…just me and Him…that should be my main priority. What comes out of that time can only be because of that time. Does that make sense? If I’m not focused on Him, I can do nothing – at least, nothing worth paying any attention to.
Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by Himself; He can do only what He sees His Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.” John 5:19
We are supposed to look to Jesus as the example to follow. When Jesus was here, He was on a mission. He knew He could not complete that mission without the Father. It is no different with us. We, too, are on a mission. The Great Commission, in fact (Matthew 28:18-20). And we must do that in light of the Greatest Commandment (Luke 10:27). We can only do that by focusing on God.
And yes, sometimes life gets in the way. But then we re-focus. And we do that simply by calling out to Him.
I guess that’s all I really have for this post. I’ve been struggling to focus…and legitimately so. It happens. But God still loves me. And as I call out to Him, He’ll meet me right where I am and help me to do what I need to do. He’s awesome like that. If you’re struggling to focus on Him – stop – and spend a few minutes in prayer asking Him to help you. He will bring your focus back to Him.
Don’t forget – today is the final day to complete the challenge for a chance to win The Dream Giver by Bruce Wilkinson! See DAY 15 for details.
