This morning, I began by praying…praising and thanking God for who He is and what He has done…and I needed to repent of some stuff, too (it’s always something).
I read through a new devotional that I just started receiving. It’s called “Praying the Names of God.” I signed up for it through crosswalk.com. This morning’s name was Jesus the Savior. Fun fact (nerd alert – I like fun facts!): The name “Jesus” was very common in first-century Palestine; however, the name became so closely tied to Jesus Christ that, by the time the second century rolled around, it had pretty much disappeared as a given name.
I moved on to my book study. I have decided to set aside my Transcending Mysteries book and return to the last book I read called Divided – When the Head and Heart Don’t Agree by Bill Delvaux. This book was transforming for me. It’s been awhile since I’ve led a small group; however, the next time I lead one, I would love to do a study on Divided. I didn’t feel led to write anything on what I read, but I’m sure I’ll be sharing some insight, in the near future.
I really felt like I needed to spend some time in the Word. Nowhere, in particular…I just felt like I needed to draw near to God through the very words He has given me. Because of the challenge that I have for you, below, I instantly thought of one of my life verses – Proverbs 3:5-6. After reading it, I backed up to chapter 2 and read through a passage that I had highlighted:
My son, if you accept My words and store up My commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom, and from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:1-6 (emphasis mine)
If we seek Him, we will find Him…and as we find Him, we will gain wisdom, knowledge and understanding. I love where it says, “search for it as for hidden treasure.” Isn’t that awesome?! That’s kind of how I approach the Word. It’s like searching for treasure. Sometimes that treasure is close to the surface – other times, I have to dig deep. But, no matter how much I need to dig, there is ALWAYS something precious to be found!
So, I would like to have a weekly challenge! =D
Here’s how it will work: If you answer the challenge, by leaving the answer in the comments below, you will be automatically entered into a weekly drawing! I will present a challenge every Monday and you will have until the following Friday (midnight) to post your answers. I will announce the winner of the prize in my Saturday post.
This week’s prize will be a copy of The Dream Giver by Bruce Wilkinson. This was a book that spoke directly to my heart. And as I have had to give my dreams back to the Dream Giver, Himself – I take comfort in knowing that they are in no better hands.
CHALLENGE: In this week’s challenge, you’ll go on a treasure hunt! I would like for you to listen to Lauren Daigle’s – Trust in You (just click on the title). This song is full of spiritual truths and promises. Your challenge is to find a scripture passage that lines up with something that she sings about (there are many to choose from!). Example: “He is the Rock, His words are perfect, and all His ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is He.” Deuteronomy 32:4 And no, you can’t use my example.
Listen to the song – pray and ask God to direct you – search His Word – write it down – memorize it and speak it out loud, often! (Notice that this challenge incorporates the Word, worship and prayer.)
If you are having a difficult time finding certain passages, you can go to Biblegateway.com or Biblehub.com and do a keyword search. Sometimes by doing this, you are led to passages you didn’t even know were there…or rediscover some you may have forgotten.
It will also be interesting to see how different parts of the song stick out to different people, depending on where they are in their journey, circumstances, etc…
I hope you’ll take part in this challenge. I’m so excited to see what God speaks to your heart through His Word!!
Be blessed and have a wonderful day!
